30 minutes on the ubahn and we were in a completely different setting.

A feeling of community led us around the high rise buildings.

"The satellite city in the south-east of Berlin"

Built between 1962 - 1975 and designed by the famous Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus school. Although it did not go exactly to his plans. Originally none of the buildings were to exceed five stories. A certain wall that came about in 1961 made it much more attractive to build high, just as the demand on housing in the west was just that: high.

Also well known for being the childhood home of author Christiane F. (Wir Kinder von Banhof Zoo), which happens to be the first movie I ever saw set in Berlin.

enjoy!
